High season in the international grape market

Considered one of the oldest fruits discovered by mankind, the grape had its first records in the Middle East region during the Neolithic period, there are about 6 thousand to 8 a thousand years. The fruit began to be produced in Brazil around the 1530s, when it was brought by Portuguese immigrants, however, it was only in 1626 that its expansion took large proportions in Brazilian territory, reaching the southern region of the country, which is currently the region that but it bears this fruit. Despite the high Brazilian production, today, China is the largest producer of grapes in the world.

Product uses

In addition to being used to manufacture various other products, such as jellies, wines, juices, sweets and vinegars, the grape is also widely consumed “in natura” , as it is a rich source of carbohydrates, vitamins (such as thiamine, riboflavin and vitamin C) and minerals (calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, copper and potassium).

the grape market

In the Brazilian domestic market, in some years the supply is greater than consumption, so there is a decrease in prices in the field and, therefore, of the product. In the foreign market scenario, there are two periods of the year when the supply from competing countries is lower, which favors Brazilian exports. The first period runs from April to June and the second and more promising runs from October to December.

national production

According to the IBGE, in the 2021 harvest, 1,748,197 tons of grapes were produced in Brazil. The largest producer was the State of Pernambuco (1,549,239 thousand Reais), followed by Rio Grande do Sul (1,304,673 thousand Reais) and São Paulo (641,465 thousand Reais). As well as the production of the fruit, the production of its derivatives is also largely concentrated in Rio Grande do Sul, which is responsible for about 90% of the national production of wines and grape juices.
