Corn: protagonism and expansion

      Originated in Mexico and then spread across South America, corn has been part of the world's diet for over 7000 years . As part of Brazilian cuisine, it is used in the preparation of breads, cakes and typical foods such as hominy and curau. In addition, it is also a raw material for the animal feed industry and ethanol fuel production. Thus, its versatility makes the food increasingly prominent in Brazilian exports and reaches other countries.


The harvest of the second crop of 2021/22 is accelerated

      According to the Pátria AgroNegócios consultancy, the harvest of the second harvest of the 2021/2 season is moving forward quickly increase the pace of Brazilian corn exports as larger volumes become available. In addition, due to Russia's war against Ukraine, countries that previously imported Ukrainian food may choose to do business with Brazil. Today, the countries that most import Brazilian corn are Iran, Egypt and Spain.


Brazil towards the position of largest exporter in the world

      For decades, Brazil has been gaining prominence in the production and export of grain. In the period from 2010 to 2020, there was a growth of 218.5% in exports. In 2019, the country broke the export record with the mark of 41 million tons, and thus consolidated itself as the second largest exporter in the world, behind only the United States. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA), the projection of production for 2029/30 is 123.9 million tons, thus being able to reach the position of the largest world exporter.
